Vellore Village

Vellore Village is a somewhat more recent community in Vaughan. It is home to a brand-new Vaughan Tier One regional hospital, Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, and a vast shopping mall, Vaughan Mills Mall.

Community Overview

The Community of Vellore Village runs from Jane and Highway 400 on the east to Rutherford Road in the south, Pine Valley Drive and Islington Avenue on the west, and Teston Road on the north. Bounding highway 400 and located close to numerous amenities such as shopping malls, hospitals and schools, Vellore Village has evolved into one of the fast-growing communities in Vaughan.

1. Housing:

Vellore Village is a relatively new community in Vaughan with residential real estate expansion after 2000. Detached homes with three or four bedrooms make up most of the Community's housing. Townhouses and Semi-detached homes are also ubiquitous here. Homeownership is high in Vellore Village, with only about 10% of renters living in the Community.

From MLS listings, in the past 90 days, Vellore Village Vaughan sold 71 detached houses on average of $1,809,364; 49 Attached town home, Semi-detached and Link houses on average of $1,162,318; 5 condos on average of $844,160.

2. Demographic:

The Community is highly diversified, with residents originating from many countries. West of Weston road, Italian represents the largest demographic group in this Community, over 25%. Indian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Cambodian, Flipino, Korean, Assyrian, Iraqi, Greek and Romanian are also widespread in each neighbourhood. It has a higher than average of immigrants from East India and Pakistan living east of Highway 400 close to Jane street and Teston road.

3. Transportation:

Though several bus lines operate through the Community, driving by car will be more manageable. Highway 400 provisions three entrances at Teston Road, Major Mackenzie Drive and Rutherford Road. It takes shorter than eight minutes to drive to reach the highway from anywhere in the neighbourhood. Weston Road also has access to express tollway 407, which permits a speedy trip to both East and West, even during rush hour.

4. Recreation:

There are plenty of green spaces available throughout the Community. Several parks, including Vellore Wood Parks, Mattew Park, Via Campanile Park, Vellore Village Woodlot, Chatfield District Park and more, present residents with walking trails, soccer fields, baseball diamonds, tennis court, and children's playgrounds. Posing beside Mattew Park is Vellore Village Community Centre, which furnishes residents with indoor and outdoor facilities. The community centre comprises a modern indoor library, fitness centre, gymnasium, swimming pool, outdoor Soccer field, and skate park. Furthermore, the Canadian largest amusement park, Wonderland, is just east of the Community. Residents can purchase a season pass to get unlimited access each year. West of Pine Valley between Major Mackenzie and Rutherford lies a massive block of green ground, Kortright Centre for Conservation, an environmental learning centre for Canadians.

5. Shopping:

Vellore Village has several sizeable outdoor shopping plazas. Along Major Mackenzie Drive, close to Highway 400, are Cityview Center Plaza and Vellore Village Shopping Mall. Anchored by Walmart, Mcdonald's, Homedepot, Goodlife fitness, Freshco and Shoppers Drug Mart, these two plazas constitute a major shopping block for consumers. Junction of Weston and Rutherford Road, shoppers can find Vellore Corners Shopping Mall, which has Longos, No Frills, several banks and many restaurants. Residents are fortunate enough to have Vaughan Mills Mall, one of Canada's largest outlet malls, at the Community's east gate. Over two hundred retail stores, restaurants and entertainment outlets offer unrivalled shopping experiences for visitors.

6. Schools:

Several elementary schools stand within the boundary of Vellore Village, including Fossil Hill Public School, Pierre Berton Public School, Johnny Lombardi Public School, Vellore Woods Public School, Teston Village Public School and Discovery Public School. There are also several catholic schools in the Community, predominantly centralised in the southwest of the Community.

Bounded by Highway 400, students east of the highway attend Maple High School, and west go to Tommy Douglas Secondary School. Established in 2002, Maple High School now ranks top 100 among Ontario's 700 schools. In 2017, Maple High School, Alexander Mackenzie and G.W. Williams SS, and Miliken Mills HS joined Bayview SS as the board's IB Diploma Program schools. Tommy Douglas is a brand new school and merely launched in 2015. The school now ranks top 10% among Ontario's 700 schools.

Vellore Village is a thriving community where housing price is relatively affordable. The A+ amenities such as shopping centres, hospitals, beautiful parks and well-integrated public transport attract many families.
